Board certified in 1993, Dr. Thomas Coleman specializes in Urological medicine and has been practicing Urology in Mobile, AL for going on 30 years now. He is currently a member of Urology Associates of Mobile. Prior to that, in 1991, Dr. Coleman completed his urology residency at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, MA.
He has practiced a very broad spectrum of Urology for years—thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to meet new patients and continuing to care for those that he has known for decades. Fascinated with new technology, Dr. Coleman had a unique opportunity to investigate and vet a new method of treating BPH and prostate enlargement. He was following the career of a dynamic young man who held a high position at a company specializing in urology. When the young man decided to leave that position for a startup company, it peaked Dr. Coleman’s interest, which led to a very early introduction to Neotract—the company in the midst of developing the Urolift procedure.
Through this early discovery, Dr. Coleman was able to follow the development of the procedure through FDA approval to its final acceptance by Medicare. Based on the research and early outcomes of the UroLift procedure, Dr. Coleman was convinced that this new approach to BPH treatment would be revolutionary for his own patients. This led to Dr. Coleman becoming the first urologist in the state of Alabama to perform the procedure in October of 2015. Since that first procedure, he’s performed more Urolifts than any other urologist on the Gulf Coast.
The best part? Now patients have a much-less-invasive option to treat the disease and can avoid lifelong medications along with their frequent side effects. Simply suffering from BPH—and it’s symptoms which are ever-increasing in severity—is still an option, but no longer such a necessary one. This quick and simple outpatient procedure (usually done without the need for a catheter) is an option for most patients that Dr. Coleman evaluates and treats.
